First Energy's Revised Light Bulb Plan

An Ohio power company is making a new energy efficiency proposal that includes a smaller role for the energy-saving light bulbs that sparked a backlash. In a revised plan that FirstEnergy filed with state regulators yesterday, consumers will get compact fluorescent bulbs from the company only if they request them. Akron-based FirstEnergy had wanted to automatically mail two bulbs to every customer and then add a surcharge onto electric bills that exceeded the cost of the bulbs. State offices were flooded with protests. A spokesman for the Ohio Consumers' Counsel says making the bulbs voluntary is a good move. Other components of FirstEnergy's new plan include energy-saving thermostats and incentives for buying energy-efficient appliances.

Should City Workers Live Within City Limits?

A Youngstown firefighter will be getting a nice check from the city.Joseph Wrenn will now receive more than 170-thousand dollars in back pay and benefits. The State decided in 2 006, that City's could not require their workers to live within city limits. While many council members do not agree with that residency rule decision, they voted to pay Wrenn , who was fired for moving to Poland. The city has re-hired Wrenn as a firefighter. Youngstown's insurance company is covering a majority of the payment owed.

Should Students in Campbell Get School Buses

The idea of bringing back busing for high school students in Campbell is on hold for now.

The school board wants to wait until the state makes a determination on its budget before pursuing the issue further. The idea first came up after a 15 year-old student was raped on her way to school.

Teacher's Family sues Penndot over deadly Accident

The mother f a western Pennsylvania elementary school teacher who died in crash while driving drunk is blaming PennDOT and poor road drainage for the wreck. Thirty-five-year-old Farrell Elementary teacher Melissa Miller died Feb. 27 when she was thrown from her vehicle which rolled after hitting an icy patch on the Shenango Valley Freeway. Her mother's lawsuit claims PennDOT and various parties involved in development near the road are responsible for a plugged stormwater pipe that backed up, causing the ice. Police found that Miller was driving with twice the legal limit of alcohol in her system, plus enough codeine alone to impair her driving. PennDOT has yet to respond to the suit. Does the family have a case or is this a frivolous lawsuit?

Former Judge Maureen Cronin Pleads Guilty

Former Mahoning County Judge Maureen Cronin guilty to federal charges of withholding information about an 18 thousand dollar loan from an unnamed area business executive. Authorities say that same executive is also behind a loan made to former Trumbull County Commissioner Jim Tsagaris -- who was sentenced last week for violating terms of HIS house arrest sentence. Cronin will be sentenced at a later date.

New YSU Head Football Coach

Tell us what you think of YSU's choice as it's new head coach. It's a fresh start for the Youngstown State University football team. New head coach Eric Wolford was introduced December 15th.. He's no stranger to the area...Wolford graduated from Ursuline in 19-89. He's worked with some of the biggest coaches in college ball. But this will be Wolford's first job as head coach. Y-S-U starts the season next year against Penn State.
